'Twas the Night
By Kate Gibson
A few weeks ago, on the 17th of October, our senior students finally had their annual school ball after three date changes due to COVID-19. The event was highly anticipated, and it was due to the hard work of everyone involved that we were able to enjoy the night to the fullest extent.
The process of getting ready was arguably more stressful for the female participants, with bookings running behind schedule and lashes falling off at the last minute. Their male counterparts, on the other hand, cruised through the day, chucking on a suit at the last minute.
Upon arrival, the school was adorned with the glitz and glamour of ball dresses. After congregating in the library firstly, the ball parade progressed, and each pairing got their 15 seconds of fame in front of an audience uttering “ooh”’s and “ahh”’s.

The ‘Santorini Nights’ theme offered great decorating inspiration. Greek gods acted as titles for each table, and the food, graciously catered for by the Hostel, was excellent with a large selection of meals.
The music was amazing also, and the energy in the room was indescribable. People were dancing to their heart's content all throughout the night, and this energy rarely ever ceased.
The students' attention was managed to be held the entire night, whether they were dancing or eating or chatting to others, admiring each other's formal personas. It was certainly exciting to see everyone in their ball attire, a sight that had been greatly anticipated since the beginning of the year.
At the conclusion of the ball, everyone traipsed joyfully out of the dining room, giddy from the events of the dance. The after party was the succeeding event after the ball, which as expected got rather crazy, but that’s a story for another time.
A big thanks in order to all those who were involved in organising the ball. We wouldn’t have had the beautiful outcome that we did without your tireless work. Thank you to the students for respecting the hard work of the organisers, and for respecting the rules laid down in order for us to fully enjoy our ball.
